Derek Hagar is hopeful to get one final race in this season as his home track’s finale is this weekend.
Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., hosts a show this Saturday to conclude the 2024 season and Hagar has a new opportunity lined up as he’ll drive for A.G. Rains for the first time.
“He’s got good equipment and they make sure the motors are in tip-top shape,” Hagar said. “He prepares a well-built car and program so I’m looking forward to putting my feet in and seeing what we can do this weekend.
“I think if you go out and have a bad last race you dwell on it all winter. If you can go out on top and have a good run it keeps you motivated that we have something we can build off of.”
Hagar has been strong at the track this season, earning seven of his 12 victories. In fact, Hagar was the first driver to sweep the Flip Flop 50 last month and he followed it up the following weekend by sweeping the World Short Track Championship. That marked four feature triumphs in an eight-day span.
Additionally, Hagar tied his career-best World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series result and he garnered his first career top 10 with Kubota High Limit Racing during events at Riverside International Speedway this season.
“It’s home,” he said. “I think it’s the determination to win. I take that anywhere we go. I go to every race with the same attitude and that’s to win. I think it’s a combination of that and the team I have behind me that has led to so much success.”
