Kaleb Johnson is heading east this week to tackle the World of Outlaws World Finals for the first time in his career.
Johnson will drive for Dennis Gainey during the final World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event of the season, which runs this Wednesday through Saturday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C.
“I’ve been there once with my dad, probably six or seven years ago,” Johnson said. “It was a lot to take in. It was a cool atmosphere. I think it’ll be a fun week.”
With several dozen of the top racers in the country expected to compete in the unique event, Johnson noted his agenda is simply to learn throughout the busy week.
“I think it’s tough to go in there with any expectations,” he said. “We have no laps at this place going against the toughest competition. I think a goal is to try to make a feature. That may be a little unrealistic, but we’ll see how that goes.
“I’m looking forward to it as an opportunity to make laps and get more acclimated with a different track. The main thing for me is to go out and try to get better every time we hit the track, not only with the race car but with myself.”
Johnson produced his career-best World of Outlaws result earlier this season with a 10th-place result.
