Tim Estenson improved throughout a Kubota High Limit Racing doubleheader at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track last weekend.
Estenson, who was making his first appearance at the track and season debut with the series, kicked off the weekend on Friday by qualifying sixth quickest in his group. He then placed eighth in a heat race before winning the B Main, which garnered a transfer into the back of the main event. Estenson ended the night with a 24th-place finish.
“The biggest thing going into Friday was to pill draw good and we did after going out early,” he said. “We were able to have a good qualifying lap. I was in a good spot for the heat race, but made the wrong choices and it cost us. If you don’t capitalize on the start with some of the best guys in the country you’ll get ate up. We were able to start on the pole in the B Main and have clean air so that went well. Then we started deep in the feature and I just tried to hold my line and log laps to learn.”
Estenson timed in eighth quickest in his group on Saturday and a run from fifth to third place in a heat race locked him directly into the main event. He picked up a pair of positions in the feature to finish 14 th – a career-best outing with High Limit Racing.
“We were decent in qualifying in our group,” he said. “In the heat race, I was able to get two spots on the start and next to second place, but he had a better line. We spread out after that. It put us starting further up in the show. We got a couple of positions as we went back and forth all race with several guys. We were pretty happy with the outcome of our weekend.”
Next up for the team is a trip to The Dirt Oval at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill., this Friday and Saturday for the Federated Auto Parts Route 66 Showdown with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series. It will mark Estenson’s debut at the track.
“After watching some videos it looks like it could race similar to Texas Motor Speedway, but is smaller,” he said. “After overachieving our goals last weekend that gives us more confidence racing this weekend with the World of Outlaws.”
