This year has been a breakout season for the Yorba Linda, California driver. After the first race of the season, he was seventh in the series championship standings. That was the only time the pleasant driver has been outside of the top six all season long. He has been in the top five in the standings for the last four months dating back to June 8th. His highest ranking of the year came in week 11 when he was third.
Williams comes into this Saturday’s race at “Arizona’s Baddest Bullring” fifth in the title chase. In his last appearance at the track that is located 20 minutes from downtown Laughlin, Nevada, he turned in the seventh fastest qualifying time of the 28 cars on hand. He closed that night by finishing ninth in the 30-lap main.
Prior to this season, Williams had appeared three times on the 1/3 of a mile banked oval located approximately five minutes from the Colorado River. His first appearance came on April 23rd, 2022. In that one, he got caught up in somebody else’s mess early in the main and was saddled with a 22nd-place finish. Six months later, he recorded his best Mojave finish when he came home eighth. In 2023, he only journeyed to the track one time and placed 11th.
Williams’ last time on track came two weeks ago when the USAC/CRA series visited Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway in Bakersfield, California. That night, he started ninth and finished 10th in the 30-lap main, giving him 13 top 10 finishes in 16 starts this season.
