Zack Mitchell and Coltman Farms Racing collected a $15,097 payday for winning the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series Red Farmer Tribute race at the Talladega Short Track Saturday night.
It’s the second win for Mitchell since joining Coltman Farms Racing in August and second-straight with the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series. It’s also the second-straight season Coltman Farms Racing has won the Red Farmer Tribute race.
After going third fastest in his qualifying group and finishing second in his heat, Mitchell lined up sixth for the 50-lap feature at the third-mile dirt oval.
He quickly moved up to third and saw his opportunity to take the lead on the 15th circuit as Cory Hedgecock and Ethan Dotson were battling for the lead. Diving to the bottom to take the leaders three-wide, Mitchell was able to clear both to assume command.
The race was far from over at that point. Hedgecock did his best to challenge Mitchell throughout the remainder of the race and the two engaged in a back-and-forth battle during the final laps once Mitchell caught slower traffic.
Despite Hedgecock leading Lap 48, Mitchell was able to fend off the challenge to bag his third Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series victory of the 2024 season.
“Man, what a race. These things are never easy to win and I’m so happy I could win another one for Brett Coltman and Coltman Farms Racing,” said Mitchell. “You have to take every opportunity to make passes in these races and I saw my chance get by both Cory and Ethan, so I had to take it.
“Cory didn’t make it easy there at the end. Luckily things worked out in our favor. I was driving the wheels off that thing. Thank you to my crew, Mike, Dwayne, Dalton, Tonya and Chris, and everyone who supports this program.”
Mitchell would also like to thank his sponsors Longhorn Chassis, Bilstein Shocks, Clements Racing Engines, MPM Marketing, Socar Chemical, SRI Performance, Wiles Driveshaft, Swift Springs, Beyea Headers, K1 RaceGear, StrangeOval, VP Racing Fuel and DirtCarLift.com.
