Toyota driver Cannon McIntosh captured the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series championship on Saturday night with a second-place finish at Jacksonville Speedway to become the second consecutive Toyota driver to win the Xtreme title after Jade Avedisian took top honors in 2023. It is the first national championship for the Bixby, Oklahoma native.
The 21-year-old McIntosh led the series with six victories and 20 top-five finishes in 22 Xtreme Outlaw events on the way to the championship. He is the all-time leader for most career wins in Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series history with 11 over the past three seasons.
While this year marked McIntosh’s first national midget championship, he’s certainly no stranger to success as he ranks second all-time among Toyota midget car drivers in career wins with (44) trailing only Christopher Bell (59).
“Congratulations to Cannon McIntosh and Keith Kunz Motorsports in capturing the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series championship,” said Tyler Gibbs, General Manager of TRD, U.S.A. “Cannon has proven to be an elite talent with more than 40 wins since joining us at age 15 and this season he took the next step with an amazing level of consistency.”
Toyota-powered drivers have now won 18 overall national midget series championships since 2013 with nine in USAC competition, seven in POWRi and two in Xtreme Outlaw.
McIntosh will attempt to become just the second driver in midget car racing history to score two national championships in one season next week in POWRi National Midget League competition as they close out their season. McIntosh holds a commanding 480-point lead in the title race.
