Two-time NASCAR Whelen Euro Series Champion Anthony Kumpen is back in action! The Belgian makes his comeback for his home race at the Circuit Zolder aboard the #66 Chevrolet Camaro fielded by his PK Carsport team. The Hasselt native competes in EuroNASCAR PRO, while Thomas Dombrowski joins the Belgian powerhouse after racing in EuroNASCAR 2 with Team Bleekemolen. The NASCAR GP Belgium is always a special event for Kumpen and his PK Carsport team with many fans, partners and guests visiting the track.
Dombrowski will keep his starting number, but the car belongs to Kumpen’s team, which will run a second Chevrolet at Circuit Zolder for the first time in the 2024 season. The #24 Camaro remains in the hands of Vittorio Ghirelli, who visits the EuroNASCAR Finals Belgium as the title favourite. A small spoiler: Team Bleekemolen will not reduce the number of cars for the last race of the season, with breaking news to be announced soon. Kumpen as a non-championship driver in the playoffs has no impact on the championship battle, but he is certainly capable of stealing a trophy from the other top drivers on the grid.
“I’m back on track for Zolder, but it won’t be an easy task as I haven’t been in a race car for almost a year,” said PK Carsport team manager Kumpen. “The last race I drove was the EuroNASCAR Final at Zolder in 2023. Since then I have been very busy with my racing team and my son’s karting career. I spent more than 200 days a year at the track. We did a 15-lap roll-out with the #66 Chevrolet that I will share with Thomas Dombowski. It will be a bit strange to be back in the car with so little preparation. As a Belgian and an ambassador for the Circuit Zolder, it’s important to be here for the sponsors who support my team and my son’s racing career. But it’s still a bit of a gamble for me. I’m still looking forward to it. We will go there with an open mind and see how it goes. We are happy to be back because I love NASCAR and Circuit Zolder.”
Dombrowski is proud to be associated with a four-time championship winning team in Europe’s official NASCAR series. “I am happy to be racing alongside Anthony Kumpen, a talented and experienced driver,” said the Frenchman, who joined EuroNASCAR through TEAM FJ’s recruitment programme, which provides tailor-made solutions to compete in the series. “This is a great opportunity for me and I can learn a lot. No matter what happens, I am determined to finish the season on a high note. Dombrowski is eighth in the EuroNASCAR 2 standings and is aiming to finish the season in the top 5.
The 2024 EuroNASCAR Finals will take place on 12-13 October at the Circuit Zolder in the woods of Limburg. The Belgian circuit is famous for its rollercoaster layout and passing opportunities. Qualifying and all four double-header races will be broadcast on EuroNASCAR’s YouTube channel and on several television networks around the world.
