Holmes Wins in Pensacola

Bret Holmes and the H2 team looked to continue their momentum from a week ago as they headed to Pensacola on Friday evening for the Allen Turner Pro Late Model twin 50’s.

Right off the truck the H2 was fast, turning the second quickest time in two different practice sessions. In qualifying, Holmes put down a time that was fifth fastest and after the field was inverted the H2 started on the inside second row in fourth place.

Running in the top five for the entirety of the first race, Holmes did not want to overwork his tires as he rode in second until the checkered flag of segment one dropped. This placed Holmes in prime position to make a run for the win in segment two.

From the start of the second twin 50, Holmes was a man on a mission. The H2 was determined to make a run to the front as he chased down Derek Thorn in the waning laps to deny the Bakersfield, CA, driver a win over the Alabama native.

With a gap of more than 10 car-lengths Holmes cruised to the checkered flag in segment two, placing the H2 in victory lane for the first time of 2016.

This was the first win for Holmes at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola.

Holmes will now turn his attention back to the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards as the General Tire 200 is set for April 29th at Talladega Superspeedway. This will be Holmes second ARCA career start and first on a superspeedway. Grant Enfinger will once again crew chief as the No.23 will get set to tame the biggest and baddest track in the world.

RACE QUOTE: ““We finally got it done tonight,” said Holmes. “We had been second and third here a bunch and it had been a little frustrating to come up short. I remember last year, running behind Derek, riding his tail when he crossed the line. We finally got over that hump this season.” I think this is great for us moving into the heart of our racing schedule. Talladega is coming up in a few weeks and this can only help us in terms of being ready to take another checkered flag at my home track (Talladega). I just want to thank all the guys on the team and all the people back home who make all this possible for me. I am truly grateful to all my supporters and fans! Looking forward to seeing everyone come out to Talladega in a few weeks!”
