Cannon McIntosh placed second, with fellow Toyota driver Daison Pursley finishing third in Thursday’s preliminary night for the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Series Driven2SaveLives BC39 at the Dirt Track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, sending both drivers directly to Saturday’s A Main feature event.
McIntosh began from the eighth position and moved up to fifth by lap 20 of 30 as he searched for his sweet spot on the track. He would eventually find it down the stretch, passing Keith Kunz Motorsports teammate Ryan Timms for fourth on lap 21, then powering past Thomas Meseraull for third on lap 23. A late yellow on lap 28 would close up the field and McIntosh would motor around Zach Daum for the runner-up position coming to the white flag on the final lap and earn his way into Saturday’s feature.
Pursley also displayed an impressive late charge to finish on the podium. Running seventh on lap 23, he would climb up to fifth on lap 28, up to fourth on lap 29 and he dive underneath Daum in turn three to earn his 13thpodium finish in 17 races this season.
Jacob Denney would place fourth and Timms was ninth to round out the Toyota-powered entries in Friday’s feature event.
Pursley and McIntosh will enter Saturday’s A Main holding down the top two positions in the USAC national point standings.
Night two of the 2024 Driven2SaveLives BC39 is scheduled for Friday night at the Dirt Track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Toyota Quotes:
Cannon McIntosh, KKM Toyota:“I feel it was a pretty successful race tonight. Early on we struggled a little bit in the heat and qualifying races. We started eighth and knew we had some work to do. Our car was so much better in the feature. I moved around a lot and finally found a good line that allowed us to move forward and make up some ground. It’s big to qualify directly for the A Main. We won’t get to run as many laps, but we also don’t have to worry about getting caught up in something in one of the preliminary features. It’s good to get GearWrench, Toyota Racing, Mobil 1 and K1 back on the podium.”
