After another podium finish with the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars at the Santa Maria Speedway on September 7th, Flowdynamics driver Logan Williams will continue pursuing the 2024 series championship this Saturday night at Perris Auto Speedway.
In what has been the best season in his career, Williams enters Saturday’s race fourth in the series championship standings. The 28-year-old has been in the top five most of the season and has been ranked as high as second in the seesaw battle for the crown. He enters Saturday’s race with 821 points. That is 23 points behind his brother Austin who is third. The total leaves him 106 points out of the lead with eight races to go before the season ends.
Williams, who lives in Yorba Linda, California, turned in a lap of 14.089 in qualifying at Santa Maria. That was the second-best in the 15-car field. A fifth to third run in his 10-lap heat race guaranteed the 2013 Perris Auto Speedway Young Guns champion of starting on the inside of row three in the 30-lap main event.
As he did in his heat, Williams drove the black #5W forward in the main to finish third. He was closing on the second-place driver late in the race, but ran out of time before the checkered flag ended the exciting event.
“After the yellow, I knew he was there,” Williams told the enthusiastic crowd of his brother Austin being right behind him in fourth. “Towards the end of the race when we were getting caught up by lapped cars, I could definitely hear somebody back there. My car was a rocket. It was a tough track; it was pretty rough out there again. I cannot thank my guys enough. John and Tammy McCarthy, Flowdynamics, Randy Derting, my dad, Clayton, my mom, my girlfriend, everybody who puts a lot of hard work into this thing. Also, CRC and everybody who helps me.”
The finish was his second third-place finish of the year, both of which came at Santa Maria. All told, in 14 starts, he has finished in the top ten 11 times and top five six times. His best overall result came at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway on June 8th.
The personable driver, who has a perfect attendance record in the USAC/CRA Series this season, has made seven starts at Perris in 2024. The youngest son of 2004 USAC/CRA champion and National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Rip Williams has five top 10s on the track his father dominated in the second half of the 90s. Of those five, three were in the top five, including two fourth-place results.
To see Williams battle in the best traditional sprint car series west of the Mississippi on Saturday at Perris, spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00. Adult tickets for the exciting show are $30.00. Seniors 65 and over get in for $25.00. For kids 6 to 12, it is only $5.00, and children five and under are admitted free.
