After a Seventh-Place Finish Last Week at Ventura, Eddie Tafoya jr.heads to Perris This Saturday

Eddie Tafoya Jr. will continue his busy racing season this Saturday night, September 21st, when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars head to Don Kazarian’s Perris Auto Speedway. The race comes hot on the heels of Tafoya scoring another top 10 finish at the Ultimate Sprint Car Series race, presented by Inland Rigging, last Saturday at the Ventura Raceway.

Saturday’s race will be the 27th of the season for Tafoya, who calls Chino Hills, California home. His first 26 races have been split between USAC/CRA, USCS, two open comp races in Indiana, a pair of open comp races at the Imperial Valley Raceway, and the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals last January in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

In those 26 starts, Tafoya has 11 top-10 finishes. Nearly half of those have come on the same Perris half-mile oval he will be competing on this Saturday. Since April, the 27-year-old has had five straight top fives at Perris. Those finishes are comprised of a seventh-place result, two eighth-place finishes, a ninth, and a 10th at his last appearance at the track on August 18th. His other top-10 results in the series include a sixth at Mohave Valley Raceway on April 6th and a fourth and ninth at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway on June 8th and August 31st. He will come into Saturday’s race at the track closest to his home 10th in the series championship point standings.

Tafoya also has a pair of top 10s in the USCS. His best overall finish of the year came when he placed second in the USCS competition on June 15 at the rejuvenated Santa Maria Speedway. The other came last Saturday when he came home seventh. His other top 10 for the year came when he steered his #51T to an eight place finish in an open competition race at Indiana’s Lawrenceburg Speedway on June 5th.

Last Saturday at the Ventura Raceway, which is located adjacent to the beach less than half a mile from the Ventura Pier, Tafoya qualified second fastest in his group of seven cars with a lap of 13.000. That was also the fifth fastest of the 22 cars on hand. The 27-year-old followed that up with a third-place result in his heat race.

For the main on the tight confines of the Ventura Raceway, Tafoya started on the outside of the third row in sixth and brought the #51T home in seventh. The finish kept Tafoya sixth in the USCS championship standings.
