Kaleb Johnson Strong Early During World of Outlaws Tripleheader at Huset’s Speedway

Kaleb Johnson has a lot of positives to take out of a three-race World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series weekend at Huset’s Speedway.

Johnson qualified inside the heat race inversion and won a heat race each of the first two nights. He also finished inside the top 20 in the main event during the Huset’s Hustle presented by Folkens Brothers Trucking on Friday and the BillionAuto.com Huset’s High Bank Nationals presented by MENARDS on Saturday and Sunday.

“I feel like we had good speed, but not the results we were hoping for,” he said. “We were good in clean air, but struggled in dirty air. We had good speed early, but I’m bummed we couldn’t get a little better finishes.”

Johnson qualified eighth quickest in his group on both Friday and Saturday to garner the pole position in a heat race. He took advantage to win the heat race each night to advance into the main event.

“It’s a little bit of a boost of confidence, especially compared to years past when we hadn’t been able to do that,” he said. “To have speed and be able to race with them is a good feeling. We just need to get better at finishing the whole night.”

Johnson placed 20 th on Friday and 17 th on Saturday. He finished fourth in a heat race and 19 th in the A Main on Sunday.

“We changed a bunch of stuff after Saturday and then I wrecked the nose wing on the first lap so we didn’t get a good test,” he said. “It was on the right rear all weekend, which is something I haven’t been used to at Huset’s. There’s a lot of positives from the weekend and a lot we learned so it was a good weekend overall.”

Johnson’s final scheduled race in his sprint car this season is this Saturday at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., during the 24 th annual Jerry Richert Memorial with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series. He will then drive for Dennis Gainey on Sunday at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., during the Stewart Alley Memorial with the Gunderson Racing Inc. Midwest Sprint Touring Series 360 Sprint Cars.
