Kaleb Johnson Wraps Up First Career Huset’s Speedway Championship

Kaleb Johnson is a Huset’s Speedway champion.

Johnson capped the points season at the high-banked oval on Sunday with a seventh-place result after qualifying fifth quickest and finishing third in a heat race.

“We qualified pretty good,” he said. “In the heat race it was very tough to pass and we stayed where we started. Then in the feature I got hung up on the outside in the first corner and I got passed by a couple of cars. On a late-race restart I tried to make a move on the fifth-place car and it cost me another position. Even though we went backwards I felt it was an all right night.”

The result was Johnson’s division-best 10 th top 10 of the season in 11 features. No other driver had more than seven top 10s at Huset’s Speedway this season.

“I think mentally it’s a huge confidence boost,” he said. “I had a sour taste in my mouth after last year. To come out and put together solid, consistent runs was great to show what our team is capable of.”

Another huge weekend is on tap for Johnson as Huset’s Speedway hosts the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series this weekend. The Huset’s Hustle presented by Folkens Brothers Trucking is Friday with the BillionAuto.com Huset’s High Bank Nationals presented by MENARDS on Saturday and Sunday.

“I’m definitely looking forward to it,” he said. “When the Outlaws were here earlier this year we made the feature, but had a hiccup with the engine. Hopefully we can continue with similar speed, but not have the misfortune.”
