2011 ASA National Champion is Part Of An Elite Fraternity

Barry Beggarly, the 2011 Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Champion, is one of four drivers to hold this elite title.  He is also the first to win an ASA Member Track National Championship and NASCAR Winston Weekly Series Championship (1993).

Beggarly joins a fraternity that includes Cary Stapp (2008), Tommy Cloce (2009), and Bryan Wordelman (2010).

The 2011 champion had an average of 4.9416. Beggarly’s average is the third highest among the four champions. Stapp has the highest with a 5.1794 with Cloce having a 5.0893.  Wordelman’s average was 4.4664.

This average is a unique proprietary formula that factors wins, finishes, number of cars passed, car counts and more throughout the drivers season while competing at their ASA Member Track. The National Champion must also win their track championship the same year to qualify for the title. Beggarly is the 2011 track champion from Ace Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Altmahaw, NC.

SpeedNetDirect.com tabulates the averages and is updated each week on their website during the racing season.

Beggarly does hold the honor for having the largest margin of victory for his national title with his margin of victory of 0.2341 over Zack Franks, the 2011 Late Model Sportsman champion from Newport Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Newport, TN.

Wordelman, the 2010 ASA National Champion from Rocky Mountain Raceways, an ASA Member Track in West Valley City, UT, has the closest margin with a difference of 0.0028 over Dustin Rumley.  Tommy Cloce’s margin in 2009 was 0.0593 and Cary Stapp’s was 0.0847.

Beggarly’s championship also shows how the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Championship has been shared all across the United States.  Beggarly is a resident of North Carolina, the first for the southeast quadrant of the United States.  Cary Stapp is from Texas, Tommy Cloce from New York, and Bryan Wordelman from Utah.

“We are very pleased with the success of the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Championship,” Dennis Huth, ASA President said.  “Each year, there is more interest with our competitors and tracks participating with our National Championship program.  The formula is showcasing the best drivers competing each week at our ASA Member Tracks across the United States.  We are very grateful for our partnership with Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil, Joe Gibbs Racing, and SpeedNetDirect.com for their involvement.  The one constant thing we hear each year about our National Champion is that they earned it.”

Beggarly will soon have his tryout with Joe Gibbs Racing, the annual prize for the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Champion.   Final plans are being set for this and will be announced at a later date.

Drivers from participating ASA Member Tracks across the United States have chosen one of their divisions as their premiere divisions.  Those drivers in the premiere division, who are ASA members in good standing, will compete at their ASA Member Track to first win their track championship.  Once they accomplish that goal, they will then be matched up against the other premiere division champions to determine the National Champion.

ASA has once again teamed up with speednetdirect.com to create a proprietary point system that is much like a batting average in baseball.  Some of the factors used to create an average are wins, number of cars passed, finishes, car count, and number of events.  No one knows what has more of a factor over another.

Race fans and competitors can follow the standings on www.speednetdirect.com.  The opening page shows the current track point leaders that would be eligible for the National Championship if it ended today.  The East and West Region standings give a complete listing of all of the drivers participating this season.
