NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race Notes:

RCR at Charlotte … In 121 starts at Charlotte Motor Speedway, RCR has earned six points-paying victories. Four of those were won by Dale Earnhardt, while Jeff Burton added to that total with a win in the October 2008 race and, most recently, Kevin Harvick took home the trophy in one of NASCAR’s marquee events – the Coca-Cola 600 – in May 2011. Harvick also recorded an impressive win at the 2007 Sprint All-Star Race to go along with Earnhardt’s three victories in the annual all-star showcase, giving RCR 10 total NASCAR Sprint Cup Series checkered flags at CMS. Additionally, RCR boasts 20 top-five and 40 top-10 finishes at the 1.5-mile track with seven different drivers including Earnhardt, Ricky Rudd, Mike Skinner, Harvick, Burton and Clint Bowyer. Richard Childress, a former driver on NASCAR’s senior circuit, contributed two of those top 10s from 1978-1979. The Welcome, N.C.-based organization has led a combined 1,111 laps at the Charlotte facility.

The Collective RCR … Over the season’s first 30 races, RCR’s four NSCS entries have notched five wins, 15 top-five and 36 top-10 finishes. The No. 31 team kicked off the 2011 season with a non-points win in the second Duel 150 qualifying race at Daytona International Speedway. The No. 29 team visited Victory Lane at Auto Club Speedway in March and backed that up with a win the following weekend at Martinsville Speedway. In May, Harvick and the No. 29 team visited Winner’s Circle at Charlotte Motor Speedway, claiming the checkers in one of NASCAR’s marquee events – the Coca-Cola 600. Paul Menard and the No. 27 team captured the checkers in the prestigious Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in July and the No. 29 team returned to Victory Lane under the lights at Richmond International Raceway. RCR-prepared Chevrolets have completed 33,899 out of 34,860 total laps (97.24 percent) with drivers Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton, Harvick and Menard, who have also led a combined 784 laps.

99 Trophies on the Wall … Since its inception in 1969, Richard Childress Racing has collectively claimed 99 victories in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Dale Earnhardt visited Victory Lane 67 times with his good friend, Richard Childress as a team owner, Kevin Harvick has claim to 18 wins and Clint Bowyer has four. Jeff Burton won four of his 21 NSCS victories with the Welcome, N.C.-based organization, Robby Gordon added three wins to the count, Ricky Rudd contributed two and Paul Menard earned his first career NSCS win in his inaugural year at RCR.

Congrats Team Chevy! … After a strong effort last Sunday at Kansas Speedway, Chevrolet clinched the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Manufacturers’ Cup. It was the 35th time in the Detroit, Mich.-based organization’s history that they have claimed the prestigious title. Chevrolet won its first Manufacturers’ Cup in 1958 and now, with the 2011 Cup secured, has equaled its previous run of nine consecutive titles achieved in 1983-1991. With six races remaining on the 2011 Sprint Cup Series schedule, seven different drivers have contributed to Chevrolet’s 14 victories this year including Richard Childress Racing teammates Kevin Harvick (four trips to Victory Lane) and Paul Menard (in the prestigious Brickyard 400). Chevrolet drivers have also won 27 championships, including each of the last six with their first coming in 1957 with Buck Baker.
