The Flowdynamics Racing Team, consisting of Matt McCarthy and Logan Williams, gets back in action this Saturday, July 13th, when the West Coast’s premiere traditional sprint car series, the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, returns to famous Perris Auto Speedway. It will be race #10 of 23 on the 20-year-old association’s schedule.
Williams, who lives in Yorba Linda, California, was in action last Saturday night when the series made its first stop at Santa Maria Speedway since August 6, 2022. The race was the third on the 60-year-old 1/3 mile banked clay oval since the middle of last month. A tough field of 26 cars and a large, enthusiastic crowd showed up for a night of exciting 410 sprint car racing.

Williams kicked off his night by recording the 11th fastest time in the talent-laden field with a lap of 14.061. That put him on the inside of the second row in his 10-lap heat race, where he was matched up against eight other drivers, including his two older siblings. The 2014 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year flew into the lead on the back straight on lap three and went on to score his initial heat victory of the year by more than a full straightaway.
At the first USAC/CRA main event at Santa Maria in 703 days, Williams was coming from the 11th spot in his handsome #5W Flowdynamics sprint car. It was a technical “Cowboy Up” track that was capable of biting at any time. Williams kept his nose clean, stayed out of trouble, and came home in the eighth position.
The result saw Williams record his eighth top-ten finish in nine starts in 2024. In what has been his breakout season, he remains in fourth place in the championship standings, only eight points in arrears to his older brother Austin, who sits third. Additionally, entering Saturday’s race, he is only 45 markers out of first.
For McCarthy, who thus far has confined his racing to Perris this year, Saturday will be his sixth start of the season. He has been fast every night and has won heat races on three of the five appearances. However, he has been the victim of being in the wrong place at the wrong time later in the shows. His best finish of 2024 came on April 27th when he started 14th and drove forward to finish sixth in the main event. While he is not concerned with points this season, he goes into Saturday’s race 18th in the standings.
