Windom Finishes Second in Saturday’s “Fall Nationals” at Lawrenceburg Speedway

Chris Windom finished second in Saturday’s AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship at Lawrenceburg Speedway. Windom and Levi Jones qualified with identical lap times, but position was set by a tie breaker, in which Jones won, based on the driver’s first qualifying lap being slightly better than Windom’s. Windom won his heat race while Jones finished second in his, moving both forward to the feature. Because of the invert, Jones started the feature on the pole, and Windom started 10th.

Windom was able to move from 10th to fourth by the first caution at lap 22 of the 30 lap feature when race leader Jonathan Hendrick was involved in a multi-car wreck, flipping in turn three. Jones who ran second for the first 22 laps took the lead after the caution. Windom restarted fourth and was able to pick up two positions bringing his Fox Paving/Claxton Engines Maxim/Mopar across the finish line second.

Windom said after the race, “The track was really fast, it was a hard track to race on and gain a lot of ground, with the first 22 laps running under green there were no opportunities to bunch back up with the group. We probably had the fastest car there, we just ran out of time at the end to pass for the lead.”

Windom is currently locked in a points battle with defending champion Jones in the AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship Series. With six races remaining in the 2011 season, Windom trails Jones by 44 points. The series heads west for the final races in Arizona and California.

Windom recently signed with Rising Star Management Group.
