Roush Yates Weekend Round Up – Edwards Wins at Dover and More

Roush Yates Engines showed off their power and performance this weekend by winning in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, and J&M Late Model Division. This brings their total wins for the 2011 season up to an impressive 133.

“Concrete Carl” dominated again at Dover International Speedway on Saturday, picking up his seventh Nationwide Series win of the season. Carl led 179 of the 200 laps in the OneMain Financial 200. His win was the 11th for Mustang and Ford, the most among all manufacturers. Carl later contributed the win to his powerful, well handling car.

“I’ve got to thank Ford. This mustang was great,” said Edwards. “We’ve got Nextgen oil on this thing. I got something on the grill and the oil temperature was 320 degrees and that’s recycled oil we won the race with, so that says a lot for Valvoline and this FR9 engine. This track is so much fun.”

Fellow Roush Yates engine teammates Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Trevor Bayne finished fifth and sixth respectively, allowing Stenhouse to extend his points lead to 22 over Elliott Sadler with five races remaining.

Ford drivers put on an awesome performance in the Sprint Cup Series race at Dover as well. Carl Edwards finished third after a speeding ticket put him in the back. Three additional Roush Yates-powered engines finished in the top nine with Matt Kenseth bringing home fifth, AJ Allmendinger finishing a solid seventh, and Marcos Ambrose finishing ninth. Edwards is now tied for the Spring Cup Series Championship with RCR driver Kevin Harvick.

The 8th Annual Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals were in full swing in Knoxville, IA this weekend with 67 late models showing up to race in the three day event. Roush Yates-powered racers Scott Bloomquist and Steve Francis both won their heat races and Bloomquist set the fast time on Friday and Saturday night. Francis finished second in the main event and Bloomquist left the weekend still holding onto the series championship points lead, 25 point ahead of Jimmy Owens.

Neal Sykes won the J&M Late Model division race at County Line Speedway on Saturday night in Elm City, NC. Sykes runs a small block Chevy with cast iron heads recently built at Roush Yates Engines. By lap 10, Sykes was lapping the field with ease as he powered around the track to his second win of the season.
