Kaleb Johnson Records Top Five at Knoxville and Top 10 at Huset’s

Kaleb Johnson pieced together another consistent weekend as he heads into arguably the biggest week of his season.

Johnson hustled from 12 th to fourth in a Dennis Gainey owned 360ci winged sprint car on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, before he scored a sixth-place result on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway.

It marked Johnson’s sixth straight top 10 to open the season at the high-banked track, where he leads the championship standings by 37 points.

“It was a good, consistent night,” he said. “We qualified good and had a good run in the heat race. Then we had a good draw for the feature.”

Johnson qualified third quickest and advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race. He pulled the No. 4 during the feature redraw to line up on the outside of the second row in the main event.

“I got a little tripped up on the cushion a few times,” he said. “I worked my way back up to fourth. The restart with two laps to go didn’t fall in my favor. I made a mistake on the last lap trying to slide Chase Randall back for fourth. I didn’t have the momentum and it cost me a spot. All in all, it was a good night to roll the car into the trailer.”

Johnson was also efficient on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway, where he timed in 17 th quickest and won a heat race. He capped the night with a rally from 12 th to fourth place. It was the third-most positions gained.

“It ended well,” he said. “We just didn’t qualify the greatest and that hurt us in the end. We had a good heat race as we started on the pole and walked away with it. We were a little tight at the beginning of the feature. The race car got better as the race went on. I was able to bide my time and pass cars when I needed. The top was super tricky and I was able to make it work. I got a couple of lucky breaks and by the end of it I came out fourth.”

Four huge nights of World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series racing at Huset’s Speedway are on tap with the $100,000-to-win Huset’s Hustle on Wednesday and Thursday and the $250,000-to-win BillionAuto.com Huset’s High Bank Nationals presented by MENARDS on Friday and Saturday.

“You always get excited to run with the Outlaws, but this year we have a little more confidence,” Johnson said. “I think the goal is to make all four features. It’s a good opportunity to race against the best in the world. I feel pretty confident. Consistency and good runs at Huset’s have boosted my confidence this year.”
