Tim Estenson made progress during a pair of starts last weekend.
The action began on Friday at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis., where he qualified 23 rd quickest before advancing from sixth to fifth place in a heat race to lock into the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series main event. Estenson climbed forward a couple of positions in the A Main to end 17 th – his season-best outing with the World of Outlaws.
“We were fast in hot laps, but got buried with the pill draw,” he said. “We took what we could and there was a little driver error as I didn’t hit quite the right marks I needed. That put us in a tight spot for the heat race. Luckily, we were able to move up to make the show, which makes our night easier. We were decent. The goal was a top 15 and we weren’t quite able to make that. Overall, the car was in one piece and we went forward and logged more laps with the Outlaws.”
Saturday’s Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial finale was postponed because of rain.
Estenson ventured to Huset’s Speedway on Sunday. He timed in 22 nd quickest in qualifying before advancing from eighth to sixth place in a heat race. Estenson was involved in a pair of cautions during the 25-lap feature, but he was able to advance from 21 st to 15th. It was the fifth-most positions gained.
“We were buried in qualifying again,” he said. “We moved forward in the heat race, but it doesn’t mean much as qualifying is critical for the feature lineup. During the feature, the first caution I had a good run on a restart and a guy came to a stop. I had to get on the binders and spun out. The guys got me out rolling again. The second caution was on me. I was driving really aggressive and unfortunately spun. If we could have kept going without the incidents we could have been a top-10 car. Sometimes it doesn’t go your way so we’ll learn and move onto the next race.”
Estenson plans on racing with the World of Outlaws on Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., during the Don Mack Classic before returning to Huset’s Speedway on Sunday. He currently ranks eighth in the Huset’s Speedway championship standings – only 10 points out of fifth place.
