Southern California Sprint car racing star Brody Roa made it two podium finishes in a row when he placed third last Saturday night in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series Salute to Indy at Perris Auto Speedway. It was his fourth top-four finish in five main event starts in 2024.

Things did not start the way Roa and car owner Jayson May would have liked. A small engine issue forced them to miss hot laps. However, in qualifying at the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval, Roa turned in a lap of 16.990. That was the ninth fastest time of the night and placed the Garden Grove, California racer on the outside of row two in the third heat race. The veteran steered the gorgeous #8M car to a third-place finish in the 10-lapper.
Roa, who won the prestigious Salute to Indy in 2021, started the 30-lap main event in ninth. He was around the top five in the first half of the competitive race, which was a fierce battle from the green to the checkered flag. However, in the last half of the race, the car and the veteran driver began to fly. Running the outside, he moved all the way up to the third-place spot. While he was closing in on second, he ran out of time and finished third.
Roa’s best lap of the main event, an 18.576, came on lap 19. It was the sixth fastest of the 17 drivers in the race, and it coincided with when he began to pick off cars. He passed six cars in the main event, which was the second-best of any driver.
“Yeah, it was good there in the feature,” Roa told the crowd after the race. “In some runs we were running everybody down and in other runs we were just kind of hanging. We were really good at the end. It is a positive night. We moved forward, we had some good speed, and we are gaining on it. Jason, his whole family, and all his helpers put this together. It is the nicest racecar out here. It is a pleasure to drive. I am glad I get to come every week and sit in it.”
Between the USAC/CRA Series and the Ultimate Sprint Car Series, Roa has started five main events. He has finished in the top four, four times. His results include two wins in the USCS.
This week, Roa, his wife Tailor, and daughters Addi and Rylee are on vacation. His next racing appearance is scheduled for June 8th when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series visits Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway in Bakersfield.
The May Motorsports entry is sponsored by Winfield’s Racing Engines, RDM Mechanics, Cooper’s Propane, TJM Distribution, TJM Distribution, Ten West Towing, Arctic Sea Mining, Wesco International, Elite Signs and Fastenal.
