Kaleb Johnson Posts Top 10 During First Knoxville Raceway Start of Season

Kaleb Johnson produced his season-best result last Saturday at Knoxville Raceway, where he competed in the 360ci winged sprint car division.

“We qualified all right,” he said. “The track slicked off as qualifying went on and we were 10 th quickest. Then I got a good start in the heat race and ripped the outside to pass a couple of cars. We got passed for second on the last lap and luckily I was able to slide (Aaron) Reutzel to get second back.”

Johnson’s run from fourth to second place in a heat race lined him up on the outside of the fourth row in the main event.

“I got a horrible start and was stuck behind some cars,” he said. “We were too tight early in the race. As the race went on the car came to me. We were able to have a few restarts late in the race and I used it to my advantage.”

Johnson was running 10 th two thirds of the way through the race before he rallied in the closing laps to score a sixth-place finish, marking his second top 10 of the season.

Sunday’s event at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D., rained out. A return to the high-banked track this Sunday is the only race on Johnson’s weekend schedule.

“You prepare all week and then it started raining,” he said. “It builds up the hype for the following week. I’m excited to hopefully get to race there this Sunday and get our season underway at Huset’s.”

Also of note, Johnson is grateful to welcome a new sponsor – Hefty Seed Company – to the team last week.
