Parade of Power Draws A Crowd As Speedway Unveils Fall Season of Speed

More than 1,000 fans converged at the Mecca of Motorsports today for a fan forum and driver autograph session after Charlotte Motor Speedway’s Parade of Power rumbled down Bruton Smith Boulevard to launch the track’s Fall Season of Speed.

Fans gathered at Concord Mills Mall and lined Bruton Smith Boulevard to witness race vehicles representing every major series that will compete this fall at Charlotte Motor Speedway, zMAX Dragway and The Dirt Track at Charlotte participate in the parade. Vehicles included NASCAR Sprint Cup Series cars, NASCAR Nationwide Series cars, a NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified tour car, a World of Outlaws sprint car and late model, a monster truck, an NHRA Top Fuel dragster and Funny Car, classic cars, speedway Toyota Camry pace cars, a Rosenbauer fire engine and more.

Drivers participating in the Parade of Power included NASCAR young guns Trevor Bayne and David Ragan, who each scored his first career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory this year; and Ricky Stenhouse and Reed Sorenson, who are currently first and second in the NASCAR Nationwide Series point standings respectively. NHRA veteran Top Fuel drivers Doug Herbert and Doug Foley and Pro Stock Motorcycle riders Matt and Angie Smith also took part.

Led by Lug Nut, the world’s fastest mascot, in his Legend Car, the parade started at the mall and ended at the speedway’s main entrance, where Lug Nut and several participating drivers did burnouts on Highway 29.

Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway, welcomed fans and drivers to the track. Following a press conference on the Avenue of Flags, where Smith and Charlotte Motor Speedway officials discussed activities surrounding the speedway’s 14 events that make up the Fall Season of Speed, fans in attendance participated in a Q-and-A and autograph session with the drivers.
