Taste of the State: Iowa Speedway Unveils New Menu Offerings

Ask any “foodie” in the area, and they will proudly explain that central Iowa is a culinary hotspot. Iowa Speedway and concession partner, Ovations Food Service, will showcase its own evolving food scene with three new menu items that will be unveiled during “Wide-Opening Weekend” May 16-18.

In conjunction with the speedway’s concessions partner, professional chefs developed 15 different dishes for consideration. The remaining twelve dishes will continue to be evaluated throughout this season and into future seasons before being rolled out to the public.

“This is an extension of our “It’s a Speedway Thing” brand, and these new concession items were conceptualized to offer unique, exclusive, and incredibly delicious foods to our fans,” said Jimmy Small, Iowa Speedway track president. “We are all race fans so we try to create menu items that race fans will love to eat.

“I’ve tried them all and can’t wait for our fans to enjoy them as much as I did.

The new items – aptly named – are:

·         “Victory Loin” – giant pork tenderloin with bacon, tomato, and cheese curds and cheese sauce

·         “Newt. Dogg” – half-pound all-beef hot dog smothered with pulled pork, bacon and barbecue sauce

·         “The Restrictor Plate” – waffle fries smothered in pulled pork, corn, bacon, pepper jack, nacho cheese, and jalapenos

These new signature food items can be found on the concourse outside of the main grandstands.

“We believe our new menu items will be well-received by our fans and contribute to the culture we are building here at Iowa Speedway,” said Small. “We will continue to innovate and improve as we strive to offer a unique and unrivaled fan experience. Guests want value for their money, of course, but they also want really good food. So it’s our job to come up with options that meet those needs.”

Iowa Speedway is a valuable sports property to Iowa, providing a promotional platform for Iowa industries and businesses. With that in mind, these new concession items were created to become tasteful expressions  that help represent the state of Iowa and Iowa Speedway.
