Turner Scott Motorsports driver Dylan Kwasniewski dominated the Visit Hampton VA 175, leading a race high 132 laps after starting in the second spot due to rain washing out qualifying and the line-up being set by owner points. Fending off challenges late in the 175-lap race, Kwasniewski stayed collected and earned the victory at Langley Speedway in his No. 98 Royal Purple/Rockstar Energy Drink Chevrolet. This marks Kwasniewski’s second win in-a-row, as he was the top finishing NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) driver at Iowa Speedway, and third win of 2013. Kwasniewski continues to show why he became the first driver selected into the NASCAR Next program for the third consecutive time. After claiming his second victory of the 2013 season at Iowa Speedway, Kwasniewski came to the short-track of Langley Speedway with a lot of momentum. After running fourth quickest in the earlier practice sessions, Kwasniewski had his eyes set on a top-five qualifying effort. Mother Nature however had other plans as the skies opened up and washed out qualifying for the Visit Hampton VA 175. With the field being lined up by current owner points, Kwasniewski found himself starting in the second position.
When the green flag fell for the 175-lap race, Kwasniewski settled into the second running spot early and was making some bids for the lead. It was on lap 45 that Kwasniewski was able to make a move to the inside of the race leader coming off the fourth turn. Kwasniewski was able to make the pass and quickly jumped out to a five-car length lead. After numerous yellow flags slowed the race, Kwasniewski seemed too powerful for the rest of the field as he jumped back out to a commanding lead. Not even a late-race caution that sent the race into overtime could stop Kwasniewski from capturing his second consecutive NKNPSE win and third victory overall this season. Kwasniewski led a race high 132 laps en route to his victory, and recaptured the points lead. Kwasniewski currently has an 18-point lead over his closest competitor.
“The night was awesome,” exclaimed Kwasniewski. “We had some great battles early on with the guys we were chasing in the points, and I knew we had to get by them because we needed that win. The late-race restarts were tough but I knew we had the car to beat, and we needed to stay calm and collected. I’m proud we came out with the win.”
The NKNPSE will take a couple weeks off, returning to action on July 13 at Columbus Motor Speedway for the NAPA Auto Parts 150.
