Dakoda Armstrong to Turn One Racing in 2013
Dakoda Armstrong will drive the No. 60 Turn One Racing Chevrolet Silverado for the entire 2013 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season and will have WinField along as a sponsor at the season-opening race at Daytona International Speedway.
In addition to his experience in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, the 21-year-old Armstrong has an extensive history in USAC Sprint Cars and Midgets and the ARCA series, proving that he is truly one of NASCAR’s next top drivers. He was the 2010 ARCA Series Rookie-of-the-Year and has recorded two top-10 and one top-five finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 22 starts. His 15 starts in 2012 included a third-place finish in the VFW 200 at Michigan International Speedway in August, after starting the race 20th.
Long before the New Castle, Ind. driver was a rising star on the NASCAR scene he was working in the family business as a fourth-generation farmer, learning the business of corn and soybeans from his father, just as he had learned from his father before him.
His role as both a NASCAR driver and an active participant in America’s agriculture business makes Armstrong an authentic ambassador for WinField’s products and services. WinField, a Land O’Lakes company, offers top-performing seed and crop protection products. With unmatched agricultural expertise and performance as core company values, WinField brands match leading seed and crop protection products to help growers, dealers and other industry partners achieve high levels of success.
WinField brands include CROPLAN® seed, crop protection products, plant nutrients and other proprietary products. Backed with unrivaled technical services and knowledge, WinField™ products deliver outstanding solutions and value for the agricultural industry.
In addition to being able to converse with WinField growers and dealers about the benefits of WinField’s products and services, the 21-year-old Armstrong has a strong on-track record to discuss which includes three wins in the ARCA Racing Series – Winchester Speedway (2011), Salem Speedway (2011) and Talladega Superspeedway (2011) –an extensive background in USAC Sprints and Midgets, having recorded more than 200 feature wins while competing in midgets, non-wing sprints, Go-Karts, Quarter Midgets, Bandoleros, Micro/Mini Sprints and Kenyon Midgets. In 2004, at 13, he became the youngest driver ever to win a USAC National Championship title.
Turn One Racing was founded by NASCAR Sprint Cup Series veteran driver Stacy Compton in 2006 and is focused on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and developing young drivers such as Armstrong into tomorrow’s NASCAR champions. NASCAR industry veteran John Story has joined Compton in Turn One Racing’s ownership group to strengthen an already successful team.
In a driving career spanning 17 years, Compton has made 89 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts, 173 NASCAR Nationwide Series starts and 158 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts including two wins.
“Going into the season knowing we are going to compete for a championship and race wins gives me a lot of motivation,” Armstrong said. “Turn One Racing has always been a top-10 team and with its commitment to work closely with Richard Childress Racing and ECR Engines it has made itself that much stronger. The desire is there with every person in the organization and we will show up every race with a goal and an opportunity to win.”
“Having a young talent like Dakoda as well as the resources we have gathered makes me as excited as I have ever been starting a season as an owner,” said Compton. “We led the points well into the season just a couple of years ago and with the resources and people we have now I see no reason why we can’t perform at that level again, this time the entire season.”
