Ross Chastain Hopes to Keep Building Momentum

Coming off a career best third place finish last week in the UNOH 200 at the Bristol Motor Speedway Ross Chastain and the SS Green Light Racing team look to keep the momentum rolling at as the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series heads to the high-banked 1.54-mile Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Jeff Foxworthy’s Grit Chips 200 on Friday night.

Bristol was the second top-ten in the last three races for the Florida teen as he and the SS Green Light Racing team continue to impress against more experienced drivers and larger teams as the trucks take to fourteenth race of the 2012 season.

“We’re ready to go to Atlanta with the same truck we took to Michigan and Pocono,” Ross said. “This truck doesn’t qualify as good as a couple of our other trucks, it just drives a whole lot better.”

For the fourth consecutive race Melon 1, one of the largest shippers of fresh watermelon in the United States will back the Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender on Friday night when the tough trucks kick-off a NASCAR triple header with the Jeff Foxworthy’s Grit Chips 200. This week the Georgia Watermelon Association will join them on Chastain’s Toyota. “I want to thank the Georgia Watermelon Association for coming on board with Melon 1 this weekend,” he continued. “The whole watermelon industry is behind us and we’re having a lot of fun promoting the benefits of watermelon to everyone.”

Chastain has completed 703 of the last 704 laps over the last five NCWTS races and worked his way from twenty-fifth to sixteenth in the driver standings and now sits only sixteen points out of fifteenth. “We’re getting close to the top-fifteen in points again and if we keep finishing up-front we can keep on gaining on them. I plan to finish in the top-ten and keep it going the rest of the season.”

“Hopefully we can carry the momentum from Bristol. We realize what our potential is and that is to be in the top-ten. The team has been doing a great job and we’re going to set our goals for the top-ten and try to finish there every week.”

The Jeff Foxworthy’s Grit Chips 200 is the 284th consecutive NCWTS start for the SS Green Light Racing team and the nineteenth career start for Chastain in the Truck Series. Ross has moved up to sixteenth in the NCWTS point standings and has three top-ten finishes in 2012 including a career best third at Bristol on August 22nd.

There are 38 trucks on the entry list for the Jeff Foxworthy’s Grit Chips 200, which will kick-off the an exciting weekend featuring all three of top NASCAR touring series at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend.
