As the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series heads to the Dover International Speedway, SS Green Light Racing’s Ross Chastain faces the track known as the “Monster Mile” for the first time in his young NASCAR career. The last several races have seen a streak of bad luck and mechanical gremlins drop the talented young racer from eleventh to twenty-fifth in the point standings.
This week the Georgia Watermelon Association and will join Chastain and the SS Green Light team as the Sunoco Rookie of the Year candidate will try to move his way back up the point standings at one of the toughest tracks in the NCWTS. After running a white paint scheme the last few races, the team will be “back in black” this week at the Monster Mile. “We’ve got to change our luck somehow,” said the rookie driver.
Before heading to the track on Thursday, Ross, along with the Watermelon Queens will be meeting airmen at the Dover Air Force Base. “I feel really honored to meet these men and women who serve our country,” stated Chastain. “I am looking forward to shaking their hands and thanking them face to face.” Chastain is determined to put the recent bad luck behind him and arrive at Dover International Speedway confident about his chances at the famous Monster Mile.
“Bryan (Crew Chief Bryan Berry) and the guys have our Toyota set-up a little bit on the safe side to start out the first practice, then once I start to catch on to the track and get up to speed we’ll make adjustments to the truck,” Chastain said. “We’ve been to a lot of new tracks and we’ll just go out and try to get up to speed as quick as we can. I feel like we’re better prepared for this one.”
An annual Dover tradition, drivers from all three NASCAR series have stepped up to create awareness for Autism Speaks during the race weekend by featuring the Autism Speaks puzzle piece logo on their race cars & trucks. Ross is one of thirteen drivers who will run the decal for the Lucas Oil 200 NCWTS race on his Georgia Watermelon Association/Watermelon.org Toyota.
The Lucas Oil 200 is the 276th consecutive NCWTS start for the SS Green Light Racing team and the eleventh career start for Chastain in the Truck Series. He has an average starting spot of 23.8 and an average finish of 22.3 including two top-ten finishes in his ten previous starts.
There are 37 trucks on the entry list for the Lucas Oil 200. Chris Jones will pilot the No. 07 for SS Green Light Racing.
