Townley Continues Upward Swing with 16th-Place Finish at Kansas Speedway

Continuing on the steady trend of improvement, John Wes Townley piloted RAB Racing’s No. 09 Toyota Tundra to a 16th-place finish Saturday afternoon in the SFP 250 at Kansas Speedway.

Heading west to Kansas City, Kan., Townley and RAB Racing took to the track for Friday’s twin Camping World Truck Series practices, posting speeds fast enough for the 27th and 16th positions, respectively.  In qualifying, Townley circled the 1.5-mile tri-oval 18th-fastest, his best qualifying effort this season.

Creative pit strategy by crew chief Chris Rice, coupled with lighting fast pit stops by the RAB Racing crew, allotted Townley the ability to run as high as fifth Saturday. Townley finished the race in the 16th position, his highest finishing position this season.

Townley gained three positions in the driver point standings, climbing into the 24th slot. Owner Robby Benton holds steady in the 12th position in the owner point standings, only seven points out of the top 10.

“I’m really happy with our finish here at Kansas Speedway,” Townley said. “We were tight in practice, but got the No. 09 Toyota Tundra freed up prior to the race. We continue to improve every week as I get more comfortable in the truck and further acclimated with the team. I am looking forward to racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway in three weeks, and continuing to build on what we’ve accomplished thus far this season.”
