Bryan Berry named crew chief for Chastain

SS Green Light Racing is pleased to announce that Bryan Berry has joined the team as the crew chief for the No. 08 Toyota Tundra driven by Rookie of the Year candidate Ross Chastain for the 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season.

The longtime crew chief for Brendan Gaughan in both the NCWTS and the NASCAR Nationwide Series joins the SS Green Light Racing team that has 270 consecutive starts in the truck series. Also joining the team, as truck chief is Joel Martino, who has worked together with Berry for the last two seasons.

Berry is a native of Homestead, FL and started his racing career on the short tracks in south Florida. “It’s funny because when Ross and I talked for the first time we found out that he started racing at the same track (Charlotte County Speedway in Punta Gorda) that I raced at when they first opened the place,” Berry said. “It’s ironic because right where their farm is I have family living all around that part of Florida. It’s kind of bizarre how this works out.”

“I was talking with Mark Smith, our motor builder the other day and he is excited about our deal,” Berry continued. “He said it was cool because he watched Ross last year and he’s very happy to see more young guys come up and get involved. He’s excited about what we are putting together here.”

“I’m excited to have Joe come with us too, he’s a real racer you know,” Berry said. “We’ve had those days that we show up at the shop at 3:00 in the morning together. We do what we need to do to get to the race.”

Berry also loves the enthusiasm of his new driver. “I am excited to see Ross’ interest in working on the trucks, you just don’t see that all the time anymore. He’s got that fire in him wanting to do this, it’s really cool,” the veteran crew chief added.

Team co-owner Dotter is pleased to have Berry on top of the pit box for the 2012 season, “I’ve known Bryan for a long time and we’ve been close to getting together in the past. I feel he will be a great with Ross; the two have really hit it off well in the shop. Bryan has worked a lot with Toyota in the past and that is a real positive for the team. Ken (Smith) and I feel fortunate to have both Bryan and Joel come on board.”

Sponsorship for Ross Chastain and the SS Green Light Racing No. 08 team will be released in the coming weeks before the season opener at Daytona. There are opportunities available at selected races for additional marketing partners for the NCWTS Rookie of the Year candidate.

The SS Green Light team also has seat’s available for funded drivers in it’s No. 07 truck for the 2012 NCWTS season. The No. 07 team is guaranteed starting spots for the first four NCWTS races including the season opener at the Daytona International Speedway on February 24th.
