Austin Wayne Self returns to Niece Motorsports at Iowa Speedway

Officials from Niece Motorsports and AM Racing jointly confirmed today that Austin, Texas native Austin Wayne Self will return to the team and drive the No. 45 Toyota Tundra in Friday night’s M&M’s® 200 presented by Casey General Store at Iowa Speedway.

Self, 21, made his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) start with Niece Motorsports at Kansas Speedway in May where he qualified 21st before climbing to a respectable 15th place finish in the Toyota Tundra 250.

On the heels of back-to-back top-12 finishes at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway respectively, Self hopes momentum propels him towards his second top-10 finish of the year on Friday night.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to drive for Niece Motorsports again,” said Self who will make his fifth Truck Series start of the season. “We had some really good chemistry in our first race together at Kansas and I look forward to building off that at Iowa Speedway this weekend.”

In addition to one NCWTS start at Iowa Speedway last year in his rookie season at AM Racing, the 2014 ARCA SCOTT Rookie of the Year also has two starts in the developmental ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards with a track-best of sixth in July 2015.

In addition to Niece Equipment serving as the primary marketing partner at Iowa, AM Racing partner B&D Industries will serve as a major associate partner for the 200-lap race.

B&D Industries Inc. offers specialized expertise in electrical, plumbing, technologies, and HVAC systems, including construction, operation, maintenance and repair services.

After serving clients for over 60 years, B&D is more than just a company – they are a service business. B&D’s vision is to differentiate themselves so significantly through excellent service delivery and exceptional customer experience that they are able to change the industry – one project and one relationship at a time.

With Iowa not on AM Racing’s initial schedule, Self is thankful for another opportunity to race, especially at a race track he thoroughly enjoys.

“Iowa Speedway is a lot of fun and the fan base is incredible,” added Self, a 25-time NCWTS competitor. “We had a solid 16th place finish there in the truck last year and I’ve always been fast in an ARCA car. It’s a unique short track where speed and finesse is important.”

“Without a doubt, I think we can go to Iowa on Friday and contend for not only a top-15 finish, but maybe the cards will fall where we can contend for a top-10 finish.”

Niece Motorsports, which is owned by Marine Corps veteran Al Niece will compete in a partial schedule during the 2017 season, with plans of running full time moving into 2018 and beyond.

“Niece Motorsports is very excited to have Austin back with us at Iowa,” said team principal Al Niece. “He did an amazing job at Kansas. His on-track performances this year have been impressive and we look forward to seeing that continue under the lights on Friday night.”

Further information on Self’s upcoming NCWTS schedule at AM Racing is forthcoming.
