Briscoe Flirts With Victory at Texas

Chase Briscoe and the No. 29 Cooper Standard Ford F-150 team overcame both a crew chief suspension and a 12th-place starting position to earn a second-place finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. Briscoe was one of the fastest trucks on track throughout exciting 167-lap race and came within inches of his first victory in an exhilarating photo finish, claiming his best finish in seven NCWTS races and racking up his third top five.  He also took Sunoco Rookie of the Race honors for the second time this season and moved up to fourth place in the series championship standings.
After starting from the 12th position, Briscoe was scored sixth at the conclusion of the Stage 1. Reporting to interim crew chief Buddy Sisco that he just needed a tiny bit more security getting into Turn 1 and was “absolutely perfect” in Turns 3 and 4, Briscoe brought his Cooper Standard Ford F-150 to pit road for just two tires and fuel, restarting on the front row when the second segment began on lap 48. He led one lap before settling into second, where he remained until the end of the entirely-green second stage.

At the end of the stage, Briscoe radioed his crew that his truck was a little tight at the beginning of the run but was “really, really good” at the end, prompting Sisco to call for four tires and fuel without any handling adjustments. The No. 29 Cooper Standard machine restarted third but was the first truck with four fresh tires when the final stage began on lap 87. After 10 laps of side-by-side racing, Briscoe returned to second place once again. When the fifth yellow flag waved on lap 120, Briscoe relayed to his team that his Ford F-150 was a little tight behind the leader, but that he was confident that he would be really good in clean air.

Moments later, Briscoe made his final stop of the night. Armed with four fresh tires and fuel, he took second position following the restart on lap 125. Briscoe closely contested Christopher Bell for the lead before finally capturing the top spot on lap 160, just one lap before the ninth caution flag set up a green/white/checkered finish. Taking the green flag from lead, Briscoe and Bell battled side-by-side, with Briscoe seemingly on his way to his first Truck Series win. Unfortunately, before the race could reach its scheduled conclusion, a wild crash brought out the yellow flag on the final lap, with Bell in the lead by mere inches when the caution lights illuminated. The race officially concluded under yellow, with Briscoe scored in second place.
