Seesaw Night at Charlotte Leaves Briscoe and Cindric Just Outside Top 10

AUSTIN CINDRIC BREAKDOWN

Austin Cindric packed a lot into Friday night’s North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Cindric rallied from a lap down to lead laps and contend for a top-10 finish.  The driver of the No. 19 LTi Printing Ford F-150 was credited with a 13th-place finish and he gained one spot in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship standings, moving up to the 14th position.

Cindric qualified eighth and was running ninth when he spun off Turn 4 on lap 34, bringing out the second caution and losing a lap to the leaders. But he rallied in the closing laps of stage 1, holding off Christopher Bell to receive the free pass back onto the lead lap when the segment concluded on lap 42. Cindric pitted two laps later for four tires and adjustments, restarting outside the top 20 on lap 46.

He was 16th at the time of the fifth caution on lap 70, and pitted one lap later for four tires and adjustments. Running 11th when the sixth caution was displayed on lap 82, he stayed out while those in front of him pitted on lap 83, cycling him into the race lead. Cindric led the next seven laps, but his truck became too loose during the next run. He pitted for four tires and adjustments on lap 104, and was up to 10th place when the ninth caution waved with five laps to go.

Cindric gained three positions on the final restart, but lost a handful of spots on the last lap when another truck got the young driver loose in traffic while racing for seventh place, forcing Cindric to settle for 13th place at the checkered flag.

CHASE BRISCOE BREAKDOWN

Chase Briscoe had a strong showing in his first-career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, but a penalty on his final pit stop derailed his chances for top-10 finish, forcing him to settle for 11th place. He remains fourth in the series championship standings.

Briscoe qualified a career-best second and was running in the fifth spot at the conclusion of the first stage, relaying to crew chief Mike Hillman Jr. that his Cooper Standard Ford F-150 was way too loose. Briscoe made a quick pit stop for four tires, fuel and a track-bar adjustment, but with several competitors opting for fuel-only stops, the 22-year-old was scored 14th when the second segment began. By its conclusion, Briscoe had moved up to seventh, and he pitted on lap 83 for tires and adjustments – needing better rotation for his truck in the corners.

Emerging from the pits in seventh, Briscoe spent much of the race’s final laps within the top 10. He was running eighth when the ninth and final caution slowed the pace on lap 129. The Cooper Standard team decided to pit for four tires for what would be a three-lap dash to the checkered flag. Unfortunately, Briscoe was assessed a penalty for driving through too many pit stalls, and was forced to restart from the tail end, scored 16th. Briscoe sliced his way through traffic and was able to rally back to 11th place, missing his second-consecutive top 10 by less than one truck length.
