Tyler Young More Than Ready For Trip North Of The Border

Fresh off his second top-10 finish of the season, Tyler Young is beyond excited to head North of the Border and return to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) for Sunday’s running of the Chevrolet Silverado 250.

After a two race sabbatical, Young returned to the driving duties of the No. 02 Young’s Building Systems / Randco Chevrolet Silverado last weekend at Michigan International Speedway, where after qualifying 21st, the Midland, Texas native rocketed inside the top-10 in the final portion of the even and held his own to earn his best finish since his career-best sixth place outing at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February.

With momentum on his side, Young heads to Canada not only looking for another strong performance, but the opportunity to sharpen his road racing skills.

“Yeah, Michigan was really good for us and our Young’s Motorsports team,” said Young. “Over the past month or so, we’ve been really working hard in the shop to make sure we come to the track and be as competitive as possible. Last Saturday afternoon, we made that a reality. We outran some really good teams. Now, it’s important to build on Michigan for this weekend and the rest of the season.”

Sunday’s race at CTMP marks the 15th race of the season and while it’s hard to think that the season is slowly drawing to a close, the reality has set it that summer is virtually over bringing fall feelings and goals which includes more top-10 finishes before the checkered flag in November.

With his third race at the 2.459-mile; 10-turn road course just days away, Young is hoping that he can negotiate a personal track best finish – while aiming for his third top-10 of the year and second straight. Last year, Young hustled to a track best of 17th eclipsing an 18th-place run in his debut in 2014.

“I love Canada,” offered Young. “It’s such a cool facility with a lot of speed, some unique turns and wide straightaways. We only have the opportunity to race at a road course once a year, but I’m glad it’s this one. I’ve had some pretty good runs the last couple of years, but I really want to go there this weekend and do a lot better. I’m excited about the truck we’re bringing and hopefully it leads to good things.”

Unlike a short track, intermediate track or even a superspeedway, the 25-year-old knows when it comes to road course racing, there’s a lot that has to happen in order to have a good finish at the end of the day.

“Road course is tough, but a lot of fun,” sounded Young. “But this type of racing is tough on the engine, suspension, chassis and even the transmission. From there, you have to stay focused and stay on the race track. If everything goes your way, nine times out of 10 you’ll leave with a good finish. That’s what I am hoping for us on Sunday.”

Young aboard the No. 02 Young’s Building Systems / Randco Chevrolet Silverado will make his 67th career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start at Michigan International Speedway. In 66 previous races, Young has earned a best finish of sixth at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February 2016.
