Season High Second-Place Finish for Timothy Peters at Michigan

After leading a race high 42 laps, Timothy Peters finished second, and completed a 1-2 sweep for Red Horse Racing in the Careers for Veterans 200 at Michigan International Speedway. Peters’ second-career runner-up result at MIS keeps him eighth on the Chase grid with two races remaining before the Chase for the Camping World Truck Series championship. The 100-lap contest began from the fourth position for Peters, and he quickly asserted himself as the truck to beat, taking the lead on lap six. Peters radioed crew chief Shane Huffman that his Toyota Tundra was slightly on the tight side, and the team countered with slight adjustments on a lap 33 caution. The Danville, Virginia native regained the lead on lap 24, and would pace the field on two more occasions. Peters ran in the top five for the lion’s share of the afternoon, and withstood numerous challenges and a barrage of caution flags to stay in contention in the second half of the race. Peters’ final stint out front lasted from laps 84 to 98, and he found himself in a three-way dogfight for the lead on the final lap. The ten-time NCWTS race winner would cross the line .098 seconds behind his teammate, Brett Moffitt. The result gave Red Horse Racing its first 1-2 finish since Peters finished second to John King at Daytona International Speedway in 2012.

Timothy Peters Quote:
“It was a good day for Red Horse Racing – congrats to Brett Moffitt with our one-two finish. I wish I would have won, but all in all the company brings a trophy back. The 9 (William Byron) locked onto our bumper there and pushed us really hard down into turn three, but we had to do all we could do to stay in front, but good effort by everybody at Red Horse Racing, Shane Huffman (crew chief), the pit crew, Toyota, Triad Engines – just tough to swallow right there, but it felt good to run like we did all day.
