Tyler Reddick Pocono 2016 Recap

The Pocono Mountains 150 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race at Pocono (Long Pond, Pa.) Raceway was an event that Tyler Reddick (@TylerReddick) and the Cooper Standard Ford F-150 team would soon like to forget.

Reddick was sidelined after an accident with teammate Daniel Hemric after completing 29 laps in the 60-lap, 150-mile race, leaving the young driver with a 26th-place finish. Reddick holds 10th place in the series championship standings, one point behind the eighth and final Chase position.

An early morning rain shower forced the cancellation of qualifying, giving Reddick the fourth-place starting position as the field was set per the NASCAR rule book. He passed two trucks on the opening lap of the race and was closing in on leader Willian Byron when he spun at the exit of Turn 1, bringing out the first caution on lap six. Reddick pitted for four tires and fuel during the brief caution and restarted outside the top 20 when the race went green on lap 10.

Reddick immediately began slicing his way through traffic on the restart.  He picked up seven positions under green before the second caution slowed the pace on lap 13.  A number of lead lap trucks ahead of Reddick chose to pit during this caution but Reddick stayed on the track, moving up to eighth place when the race went back green on lap 16.  He was up to the sixth spot when the third yellow slowed the race just two laps later.

The third restart wasn’t as kind to Reddick.  He lost a handful of positions on lap 19 and wrestled a loose-handling truck in traffic during the following six-lap run up to the fourth caution on lap 25.  He pitted for four tires and a major chassis adjustment and lined up 16th when the race went green on lap 28.

As fate would have it, Reddick would complete only one more lap.  Teammate Daniel Hemric spun in Turn 1 on the restart and shot up the track directly into the left-front of Reddick’s truck at the exit of the corner. The contact from the accident resulted in heavy damage to the No. 29 truck and the team immediately went to the garage area.  The Cooper Standard team quickly went to work in an organized flurry of activity, replacing the front nose and hood sections in a supreme effort to return Reddick to the track.  But despite their efforts above and beyond the call of duty, the team simply ran out of time to make the necessary repairs and return Reddick to the track.  He was credited with a 26th-place finish in the final rundown.
