Daniel Hemric Eldora 2016 Recap

Daniel Hemric (@DanielHemric) and his No. 19 Draw-Tite team overcame an early accident at Eldora Speedway, rebounding to finish in the top 10. Hemric continues to hold strong to third spot in the NCWTS championship standings, just two points behind second and 11 points behind the championship leader.

After starting 15th in the Aspen Dental Eldora Dirt Derby, Hemric came back from a lap down in a damaged truck, ultimately running lap times as fast as the race winner before scoring an eighth-place finish in the only dirt race on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule.

After running in the top 10 in both of the weekend’s practice sessions, Daniel Hemric finished third in his qualifying race, putting him 15th for the green flag. Despite finding his truck to be extremely tight, Hemric was still able to beat and bang his way up to the 13th position by lap 37.

Unfortunately, on lap 39, an accident erupted in front of the No. 19 Ford F-150, and a hit from another truck caused Hemric to spin, making heavy right-side contact with another competitor stopped on the track. Severe damage required two pit stops to repair, and by the time Hemric returned to the racetrack on lap 43, he was scored in the 22nd position and down one lap to the leaders.

Fighting his way up to 19th and into the free pass position, a yellow flag on lap 53 put Hemric back on the lead lap, though still mired back in traffic at the end of the longest line.

However, Hemric was determined to find his way to the front of the field, fighting up to the 12th spot by the time a competition caution ended the second segment of the 150-lap race. After pitting for four tires, fuel and a track-bar adjustment, Hemric lined up in the 12th position for the final 60-lap shootout.

The racing grew more and more intense as the laps wound down, and in the final 15 laps, Hemric had finally broken into the top 10, running lap times consistently as fast as the leaders. Hemric battled through a wild final stretch, ultimately earning a hard-fought eighth-place finish. This was Hemric’s second top-10 finish at Eldora Speedway in two starts at the track.
