Sean Corr Sets New Goals for Eldora

Having an advantage over the competition is always beneficial. For driver Sean Corr, his dirt racing experience and accomplishments are sure to pay off when he takes on Eldora Speedway in his Richard Petty’s Garage No. 82 Empire Racing Group/Richard Petty Motorsports Development Team Chevrolet Silverado on Wednesday, July 20.

The ARCA Series veteran will add another NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start to his career when he hits the half-mile dirt oval owned by NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion, Tony Stewart, in Rossburg, Ohio for the Aspen Dental Eldora Derby.

This will be Corr’s second start at the famous “Big E” in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and he hopes to best his top-20 finish from 2015. In his previous start, Corr completed every lap and made significant gains from practice until the checkered flag flew.

Corr enters the 2016 Aspen Dental Eldora Derby with a different outlook than he did in his 2015 start. “Last year,” Corr said, “I just needed to finish. My initial goal heading into the weekend was to qualify for the race. After we accomplished that, my goal then was to finish. You’re racing against some of the best drivers in the world there. I knew I wanted to finish on lead lap. This year, I’m getting a little greedy and I’m striving to finish in the top-15, but I won’t be too upset to finish on the lead lap.”

Having grown through the ranks as a former dirt racer, Corr has valuable experience on dirt tracks. However, he notes that drivers in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series come from all different racing backgrounds, many of which include having experience on dirt tracks. He still hopes personal racing background will benefit him as he takes on the dirt oval. “A lot of the drivers there only race on dirt once a year. The more experience you can get, the better you’ll be.”

Corr took the extra step in preparing for Wednesday’s race by making the trip to Lebanon Valley Speedway in West Lebanon, N.Y., where he raced a dirt pro stock car last Saturday. “I haven’t driven a dirt car since April when we rebuilt the front end of the car and I was able to test it. This past weekend I got to race it.”

A successful weekend at the dirt track puts a stress on Corr’s schedule, but sends him off to Eldora Speedway with the confidence needed to reach his goals.
