Kaz Grala Shows Strength in Series-Best Finish at Dover International Speedway

Kaz Grala, driver of the No. 33 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet Silverado, collected his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) top-10 finish in the JACOB Companies 200 at Dover (Del.) International Speedway. This event marks Kaz’s second start with GMS Racing in the NCWTS Series and a career-best finish of 10th-place for the Westborough, Mass., native.

Kaz started the 200-lap event from the 22nd position after qualifying got cancelled due to rain and the field was set by practice speeds. Kaz reported over the radio to his crew chief, Jeff Stankiewicz, that he was experiencing a loose-handling chassis. The first caution occurred on lap 44, Leading Stankiewicz to call the 17-year old to pit road for four tires, fuel, and air pressure and track bar adjustments to help tighten the loose-handling chassis. The Allegiant Travel Chevrolet restarted from the 18th position. Still battling a loose chassis, Stankiewicz called Kaz back to pit road under caution on lap 81 for four tires, fuel, track bar and air pressure adjustments. Kaz lined up 16th for the lap 84 restart and continued to race in the top-20 for the majority of the race until the final caution of the day occurred on lap 169. Stankiewicz called for Kaz not to pit and the No. 33 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet restarted in the 9th-position. Following the restart, Kaz dropped as far back to the 11th position for the next 12 laps. On lap 182, Kaz took over the 10th position and battled to hold that position until crossing the start-finish line and collecting his first top-10 finish in his second start in the NCWTS Series.

KAZ GRALA QUOTE:
“Getting my first top-10 finish in the Truck Series is big, especially at The Monster Mile. I was battling a loose-handling truck majority of the race but Jeff (Stankiewicz, crew chief) made some great calls up on the pit box that helped tighten the truck up. I can’t thank this No. 33 team enough for working so hard this weekend and building this hot rod.”
