Practice and qualifying got underway Friday afternoon at Homestead-Miami Speedway ahead of Saturday’s Baptist Health 200 for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The field for the series encompassed 34 drivers and teams, meaning nobody failed to make the race.
Nick Sanchez paced practice with a quick time and speed of 32.590s / 165.695 mph. Sanchez, one of eight drivers racing for the title, enters Homestead looking for his third win of the season.
The remaining top five in practice included Christian Eckes, Taylor Gray, Ty Majeski, and Rajah Caruth.
Qualifying began not long after the conclusion of practice.
Corey Heim, who sat 11th in practice, earned the pole with a time and speed of 32.715s / 165.062 mph.
Despite earning the pole, Heim felt he left some on the table as he quickly apologized to his No. 11 team over his radio. “That was not a good lap,” Heim said over his radio after going P1. “Sorry about that.” Heim will go for his seventh victory in the series Saturday afternoon – having earned 12 top five and 15 top 10s so far.
Taylor Gray, Rajah Caruth, Nick Sanchez, and Ty Majeski will round out the top five starters.
Tanner Gray and Spencer Boyd did not take part in qualifying.
All trucks made the race as only 34 teams showed up.
