Tyler Reddick Daytona International Speedway Recap
Tyler Reddick's chances for a second-consecutive victory in the NextEra Energy Resources 250 Friday night at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway were derailed when he was involved in an accident just six laps from the finish.
The end result was not an indication of how strong the Cooper Standard Careers For Veterans Ford F-150 performed during the 100-lap, 250-mile race. Reddick (@TylerReddick) led twice for 12 laps, and rallied from deep in the field multiple times to contend for the win.
Reddick started 12th and cycled into the lead on lap 14 when he didn't pit during the second caution period, holding the top spot until lap 21. One lap later, Reddick was squeezed out of line and shuffled to the back of the lead draft pack, but fought his way back to the top 10 by the time the third caution slowed the race on lap 42.
The caution was ill-timed for Reddick. With his fuel supply critically low, he pitted while pit lane was closed for a splash of fuel on lap 43 then pitted once more on lap 45 for fuel and tires and restarted at the tail end of the field when the race restarted on lap 48.
Reddick climbed back into the top 10 by lap 64 and was up to seventh place when the fourth caution waved on lap 67. One lap later, Reddick made a quick stop for fuel only and lined up second when the race went green on lap 70. Reddick took the lead on lap 71 and held the top spot for the next five laps before settling into third place. The fifth caution slowed the pace on lap 78 and he restarted third on lap 81.
Reddick was running seventh in a tight double-file draft formation on lap 94 when a multiple-truck accident unfolded in front of him at the entrance to Turn 3. He was able to steer clear of the spinning trucks around him twice, but unfortunately couldn't avoid another competitor, who slid down the banking and into his right side. Reddick was credited with an 18th-place finish and is 16th in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship standings.
