Tyler Reddick Phoenix International Raceway Recap

For all that he accomplished Friday night at Phoenix (Avondale, Ariz.) International Raceway, Tyler Reddick knew it was a missed opportunity.

Reddick (@TylerReddick) ripped off his fourth consecutive top five with a fifth place finish in the Lucas Oil 150 Friday night.  He claimed his 13th top five – best in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series – and moved up to second place in the series  championship standings, 19 points behind the leader – a net gain of two points for the driver of the Draw-Tite/Reese Towpower/C-A-L Ranch Stores Ford F-150.

But Tyler and crew chief Doug Randolph both knew they could have gained even more ground at the one-mile Arizona oval.

Reddick was running third when the fifth caution slowed the race on lap 104 and set up his final scheduled stop under yellow.  He came to pit road on lap 106 for four tires and adjustments but was hindered by a slow pit stop that dropped him back to eighth when the race went green on lap 109.

Championship leader Erik Jones and Matt Crafton both entered the Phoenix event ahead of Reddick in the points chase.  Tyler was up to seventh on lap 120 when they bounced off each other at the exit of Turn 4 while racing hard for the lead.

The contact sent Crafton to the garage and Jones to the pits for repairs.  With both leaders in trouble Reddick had the opportunity to chop into the points deficit but he was unable to make up a sizable amount.

He restarted fifth on lap 126 and over the final 24 laps raced JJ Hayley hard for the position.  On lap 146 – just four laps from the checkered flag- Reddick cleared Hayley and held off his rival during the closing laps to claim the position.
