Coughlin Looks for Success in the Irish Hills with KBM

Making only his second start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and his first for Kyle Busch Motorsports, 19-year-old Cody Coughlin is ready to tackle the fast, two-mile oval of Michigan International Speedway (MIS). Coughlin will drive the No. 54 JEGS Tundra in the Careers for Veterans 200 on Saturday, and is planning to gain valuable experience while getting a solid finish.

Coughlin’s previous start in the NCWTS came at Kentucky Speedway last month. It was a challenge to say the least after rain washed out both practice and qualifying. The young rookie made the best of the situation and completed all but two laps to finish 20th. In the past two years, he has also competed in 17 ARCA Racing Series events with five top fives, 11 top 10s and two poles. Two of those starts were at MIS where he finished 14th (June 2015) and 13th (June 2014).

This weekend he will be piloting chassis KBM-030, which has three top-10 finishes in four starts this season. The Tundra debuted at Kansas Speedway in May and has earned top 10s at Kansas (seventh), Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway (ninth) and Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth (eighth).

Coughlin and KBM teammates Erik Jones and Kyle Busch will be looking to earn the team its first trip to Victory Lane at MIS. Last weekend owner-driver Busch crossed Pocono (Pa.) Raceway off the list of tracks where KBM teams had never won, leaving just Michigan, Atlanta Motor Speedway and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. KBM drivers have collected three top-five and four top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 11.2 across eight starts at MIS. KBM’s best finish came in 2013 when Busch finished second.
