Timothy Peters Captures Top-Ten Finish at Tricky Triangle

Despite a flat right rear tire in the closing laps at Pocono Raceway, Timothy Peters persevered for a seventh-place finish in the Pocono Mountains 150. Peters started the 60-lap event in 12th, after aborting his qualifying lap in the second round of knockout qualifying when his Toyota Tundra snapped loose. Peters was able to quickly move into the top 10 on the 2.5-mile track after the first caution on lap 7. The Danville, Virginia native reported that his truck was tight in the center and off of Turn 3, but had moved into sixth place by lap 18. Crew chief Marcus Richmond called the No. 17 to pit road for a green flag stop for four tires and fuel just after halfway. As stops cycled through, Peters was able to make his way back to sixth place. Following a caution with 10 laps to go, Peters restarted in fourth place after staying out on the track, rather than pitting. When the caution flew with 5 to go, Peters was in fifth place, and on the following green-white-checkered restart he went four-wide for the lead, but was clipped by another vehicle as the rest of the leaders wrecked. Under the caution, Peters was scored in second place, but the team determined that the right rear tire was flat, and he was forced to come to pit road before the second green-white-checkered attempt. Peters restarted in 12th, but the caution flew before the field took the white flag, forcing a third green-white-checkered attempt. On the final restart, Peters climbed from 12th to seventh in one lap and was able to hold on to the position to complete the final lap and secure a top-ten finish at the Tricky Triangle.

Timothy Peters Quotes:

On his day at Pocono…

“It was a great day [at Pocono Raceway]. We ran up front all day. Our Toyota Tundra was good from the time that we unloaded it yesterday. It’s very encouraging. We had a new motor package and it had a lot of speed all weekend.”

On going for the lead on the restart…

“The restarts are always crazy here [at Pocono Raceway] and it was oh so close. They got the valve stem and we had to come down pit road, but the truck is in one piece and with a top ten recovery it’s not a bad day.”
