Kvapil earns MAKE’s best finish at Gateway

Travis Kvapil, driver of the No. 50 Burniegrill.com Chevrolet in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS), raced MAKE’s career best finish at Gateway Motorsports Park after a 14th place finish despite radio and communication issues.

The No. 50 Burniegrill.com Chevrolet was decent in practice only needing minor adjustments. Kvapil started the Drivin’ for Linemen 200 160-lap event from the 19th position after qualifying was canceled due to rain. He began his march forward early in the race. Kvapil was struggling with poor radio communications with his spotter but the team was able to resolve most of the issue the first pit stop with a new radio and help from those on top of the pit box. The first stop also was a bit of a challenge; the fueling system malfunctioned causing the truck to not fill up completely. Knowing this issue the team made a call to stay out and roll the dice hoping for a quick caution. This caution didn’t come a moment too soon, lap 83, 2 laps from having to pit under green for fuel. Again another fuel system failure sent the crew scrambling to figure out the issue, however the No. 50 was the recipient of the lucky dog was back on the lead lap where he was stay for the rest of the night. The fueling issue was corrected and the No. 50 was now able to get back on pit sequence. With 8 laps to go, Crafton slammed the outside wall causing all behind to check up and slow down. Another truck tapped the left rear quarter panel of Kvapil causing him to go through the grass in turns 3 and 4. The damage was only cosmetic so there was no need for him to pit and give up the track position that he had raced hard for all night. The green flag waved with 5 to go and Travis Kvapil was in the 15th position until the last lap which he pulled to the outside of the 02 of Tyler Young for a drag race to the finish. Travis Kvapil was able to overtake the 14th position in the last few feet of the Gateway Motorsports Park securing the career best finish for MAKE Motorsports and Kvapil’s best finish of the season.

The No. 50 Burniegrill.com Chevrolet is 27th in NCWTS Owner Standings following the eighth race of the 2015 season.
