NCWTS: Kasey Kahne Captures N.C. Education Lottery 200 Victory

Kasey Kahne captured the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory in the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Even though Kahne won the pole earlier in the day, the Washington native had some work to do after going to the rear for unapproved adjustments. Kahne led a total of 22 laps to score Chevrolet’s 200th victory in the Camping World Truck Series.

The win is something the manufacture is very proud of.

“We are very proud of Kasey Kahne and his win tonight at Charlotte Motor Speedway. On behalf of everyone at Chevrolet, we congratulate the entire No. 00 Haas Automation JR Motorsports Silverado team on this milestone victory. The dedication and tireless effort of all our Team Chevy members have made this important achievement possible.  We salute all the drivers, team owners, and crews for their performance and contribution in securing each and every one of the 200 wins for Chevrolet from 1995 – 2015 in the NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series.”

Side drafting Jones was key to the win at Charlotte for Kahne.

“We were able to get away there, but (Erik) Jones was really fast,” said Kahne in Victory Lane.  “He was kind of in a league of his own when he could get to clean air.  I knew if we could kind of stay back and stay with him, as long as he didn’t get the clean air I thought it would be alright.  So I slowed up a little off of (Turn) 2 and tried to get a run and I got really loose and spun the wheel getting into (Turn) 3 trying to get to the bottom.  I just got excited and was able to side draft.  It worked out perfect to get back to the line.  I have to thank everybody at Haas Automation, JR Motorsports and Chevrolet – it’s their 200th win tonight it’s a big win for them and for us.  Wow that was a very close finish.”

After the race, NASCAR discovered the No. 00 truck failed to meet the ride height requirements. NASCAR said the truck was found to be too low on both sides and too high in the right rear. If any penalties are announced, they will more than likely come on Tuesday.

Erik Jones led the most laps once again in a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race after doing so last weekend at the Kansas Speedway. Jones, while running hard with Kasey Kahne, finished in the runner-up spot by 0.006 seconds. He leaves the Charlotte Motor Speedway still looking for his first Camping World Truck Series victory of the 2015 season.

Matt Crafton, who leads the Camping World Truck Series driver point standings, will leave the Charlotte Motor Speedway with a third-place finish. Crafton started the event from the ninth position and later led 24 laps of the event. The California native has finished inside the top 10 in each of the races this year.

The Brad Keselowski Racing pair brought home top five finishes in the race Friday night at Charlotte. Tyler Reddick brought home a fourth-place finish while Keselowski finished right behind in fifth. Both trucks led a total of five laps.

Matt Tifft made his seventh career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start Friday night at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Tifft made his best career start after a third-place qualifying effort. He later captured his best career finish in the series with an eighth-place run after a wild green-white-checker finish.

Matt Crafton continues to lead the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series point’s standings by 16 points over Erik Jones. Tyler Reddick will leave the 1.5-mile oval third in the driver standings by 18-points. Johnny Sauter and John Wes Townley round out the top five.

The next race for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will be at the Dover International Speedway on Friday May 29. Coverage will begin at 5:30 p.m. ET. on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports Go. The Motor Racing Network will carry the live radio broadcast.
