ThorSport Racing Practice Report

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series first and final practices have concluded at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Matt Crafton’s No. 88 Menards/Zecol Chevrolet was 21st fastest in the first practice with a best time of 31.782 seconds. Crafton was 6th fastest in final practice with a lap time of 31.926 seconds. Crafton battled a truck that was loose on entry for most of the day, but by the end of the final session, the entry was improved. The team did one mock qualifying run at the end of final practice.

“We started out free in first practice but we had a really good truck at the end of final practice, especially on the yellow line,” said Crafton. “This is my favorite racetrack that we go to, so I’m excited to go out there, qualify and hopefully have a great finish.”

The No. 13 Safe Auto/Curb Records/Carrier Chevrolet was 14th fastest in opening practice with a best time of 31.606 seconds, and 21st quick in final practice with a fast lap of 32.444 seconds. Sauter began the day with a loose truck & steering box issues, but by the end of the second session the truck had tightened up a little. Sauter also did a mock qualifying run before the conclusion of final practice but still fough loose conditions.

“We’re working on a lot of issues right now, but it’s hot here at the end of practice.  We’re going to be sunny at qualifying, then cool at racetime.  Tough to predict your conditions, and I know I can come up the field.  I’m not worried, we just don’t want it too loose.”

The No. 98 GoPro Chevrolet was 27th fastest in opening practice with best time of 32.037seconds, and 16th quick in final practice with a fast lap of 32267 seconds.  Marks began his day tight in turns one and two but became looser in and tight off.

“We had to work pretty hard during both practice sessions. We made a lot of changes after the first practice, and I feel like we got the GoPro Chevy handling better. I moved around the track to the high line and it seemed to like running up there much better. I don’t see any reason to not be optimistic about the race.”
