Tyler Young’s Talladega debut resulted in a 17th-place finish in the fred’s 250, his career-best NCWTS restrictor plate result. The Young’s Motorsports driver ran consistently inside the top-15 throughout the 95-lap race and lined-up sixth on the lone green-white-checker restart, but a bid for his first career top-five finish was thwarted after being shuffled to the back of the lead pack.
Starting from the 25th position, Young used the draft to make his way into the top-15 in the opening laps, while battling high water temperature issues through the race’s first 13 laps. As Young continued to run in the lead pack, the Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender’s temperature concerns subsided and he was able to advance into the top-five by lap 47. On lap 49, crew chief Bryan Berry called Young down pit road under green for right side tires and Sunoco race fuel. Young made his final pit stop 11 laps later, taking fuel only under caution on lap 60.
Young’s impressive run in the top 10 continued through a series of late caution flags that set up a green-white-checker finish. Restarting sixth on the lap 94 restart, Young charged to the outside lane on the final lap but lost drafting help and fell to the tail of the lead pack. Young took the checkered flag in 17th position behind race winner, Timothy Peters.
