NCWTS: Cole Custer Grabs First Career Win
Cole Custer captured his first career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory on Saturday at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway after a dominating performance after starting from the pole. Custer led 148 of the 175 laps during the afternoon. He did get shuffled back into the seventh spot after a late pit stop, but the last caution with nine laps left, helped the 16-year-old out to score the win.
Coming home with the second spot was Darrell Wallace Jr. after having a very good day behind the wheel of his No. 54 Toyota. Wallace was unable to lead any laps but gave Custer a run for his money in the closing laps. Today afternoon was Wallace's sixth top-five finish of the 2014 season and the fourth time that he has finished in the runner-up spot. He lost the race by 1.149 seconds.
Current NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points leader, Matt Crafton, found himself in the lead for the final restart but couldn't get going. This caused him to lose two positions to bring home a third-place finishing effort. Crafton had to start the race in the back due to having an electrical problem during the first round of qualifying and wasn't able to turn a lap. The finish will give him a five point lead over teammate Johnny Sauter.
Sauter, who sits second in the points steandings, will leave New Hampshire with a fourth-place finish. Sauter failed to make the final round of knockout qualifying and had to start this event from 18th. It was the eighth time of the year that he finished a race inside the top-five.
The next race for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will be at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sept. 27. You can watch the race live at 9:00 p.m. Et. on FOX Sports 1. The Motor Racing Network will carry the live radio broadcast.
