Townley Posts 15th in Rain Delayed NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race at Chicagoland

John Wes Townley posted a 15th-place finish in the running of the rain delayed Lucas Oil 225 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Chicagoland Speedway Saturday September 14, 2014.

Rain at the Joliet, Illinois track canceled qualifying on Friday afternoon setting the starting grid by NASCAR rule book.  This positioned the No. 05 Zaxby’s Athenian Motorsports entry in 15th-place position for the 150 lap race on the 1.5-mile track.

With qualifying being washed out Friday, the track was green for the NCWTS event, setting a blank slate for the drivers and crew chiefs.  Townley reported the Zaxby’s Toyota Tundra was loose at the start of the race but then would turn tight after a few laps during the fast paced 225 mile event. The team was quick on the adjustments in the pits, picking up spots but the truck continued the loose / tight conditions.  Townley was able to maintain, picking up his seventh top-15 finish of the 2014 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season.

“The Zaxby’s Tundra was loose at the beginning of the run but then would get really tight after a few laps,” John Wes Townley said. “Mike (Beam) made some good calls for adjustments during the pit stops but we just couldn’t get the balance for the top-10 finish we had hoped for. We’ll head to Loudon next week and see if we can get back into the rhythm of solid top-10 results for Zaxby’s.”

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returns to New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the first time since 2001 next Saturday, September 20, 2014.
